How We Choose the Right Procedure
Every skin lesion is different. We assess each lesion carefully and recommend the most appropriate treatment based on clinical findings, safety considerations and cosmetic outcome, rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach.
At Dr. Jenny Clinic, we offer plastic surgeon-led minor skin procedures for a wide range of benign skin lesions. When you visit us in our London-based clinic, treatment is always tailored to the individual lesion following clinical assessment, rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. You do not need to know the exact diagnosis or procedure type before booking. The most appropriate treatment is always confirmed in clinic.
How We Choose the Right Procedure
Many skin lesions can look similar, but the safest and most appropriate treatment depends on factors such as appearance, depth, symptoms and diagnostic certainty.
For ease of booking, procedures are grouped into broad categories. These are outlined below to help guide you, but the final decision is always made following examination.
Non-Surgical Skin Lesion Removal
Suitable for many superficial, clearly benign lesions, including:
-
Skin tags
-
Seborrhoeic keratoses
-
Sebaceous hyperplasia
-
Cherry angiomas
-
Venous lakes
Treatment methods may include cryotherapy (freezing), electrosurgery (heat-based treatment), snip excision or extraction. These are typically used where the diagnosis is clear and the focus is on safe, cosmetic removal. Single and multiple lesion treatments are available.
Shave Excision
Used for benign, raised skin lesions where cosmetic improvement is the main aim.
This may be appropriate for:
-
Long-standing raised moles
-
Larger or thicker seborrhoeic keratoses
-
Dermatofibromas
Shave excision reduces bulk and visibility. Histological testing is not routinely required for typical benign lesions but may be discussed in selected cases.
Full or Diagnostic Skin Lesion Excision
Recommended where there is diagnostic uncertainty or clinical concern.
This may include:
-
Flat or deeply pigmented moles
-
Some dermatofibromas
-
Lesions with suspicious or atypical features
Lesions removed by full excision are always sent for histological testing as part of your treatment to confirm the diagnosis and ensure safe, medically responsible care.
Viral Wart Treatments
Viral warts such as verrucas can be stubborn and sometimes resistant to treatment. Depending on the type, size and location, treatment may involve non-surgical or surgical options. More than one session may be required, and we will advise you on the most appropriate approach.
Cysts and Lipomas
Cysts and lipomas are treated surgically and categorised by size. Smaller lesions may be removed more simply, while larger lesions can require more extensive excision. Imaging will be recommended for larger lipomas prior to treatment.
Specialised Procedures
Some conditions require more specialised planning, including:
-
Xanthelasma excision
-
Keloid scar excision
These are assessed individually based on location, size and clinical history.
Same-Day “See and Treat” Appointments
We understand that many patients prefer to combine their consultation and treatment into a single visit where possible.
For this reason, we do offer same-day consultation and treatment appointments (often referred to as “see and treat”).
However, this is entirely optional and we will only proceed if:
-
You are comfortable going ahead on the day
-
It is clinically appropriate and safe to do so
If you would prefer time to consider your options, plan for downtime or reflect on the information discussed, we are very happy to carry out a consultation first and arrange treatment at a later date.
As an ethical medical clinic, we never want patients to feel rushed or pressured into elective, non-emergency procedures.
Your consultation fee is fully redeemable against your treatment, even if you choose to delay treatment by several weeks or months. You will not be charged twice for your consultation.
Conditions We Treat With Minor Surgery
We routinely assess and treat a wide range of benign skin lesions, including:
-
Skin tags (acrochordons)
-
Seborrhoeic keratoses
-
Epidermoid (skin) cysts
-
Lipomas
-
Non-suspicious, cosmetically bothersome moles
-
Dermatofibromas
-
Cherry angiomas and venous lakes
-
Milia
-
Benign viral warts or verrucas
Conditions We Do Not Currently Treat
For patient safety and appropriate care pathways, we do not currently offer treatment for:
-
Genital or anal warts, skin tags or cysts
-
Joint or tendon cysts
-
Rapidly changing or highly suspicious skin lesions
-
Known or suspected skin cancers
Where lesions are concerning, rapidly changing or suspicious, we are very happy to assess you and advise, but these conditions are best managed within the NHS under the care of the specialist skin cancer multidisciplinary team.
Treatment Planning and Follow-Up
Some treatments are completed in a single visit, while others may require more than one session to achieve the best outcome. Where repeat treatments are commonly required, this will be discussed with you during your appointment. We will also be transparent about whether, depending on your particular lesion type, any follow up treatment sessions are included as part of your original treatment quote or whether further sessions are charged.
A routine follow-up review is always included as part of your treatment, with additional follow-ups reviews also available if you have any concerns relating to a recent procedure.
Booking Guidance
When booking online, please select the option that most closely matches your lesion. Do not worry about choosing the “wrong” category.
We will always:
-
Examine the lesion in clinic
-
Confirm the most appropriate treatment
-
Explain why a particular approach is recommended
If you are unsure or would prefer to discuss your options first, booking a Consultation is always an appropriate starting point.
We have also written a step-by-step guide on how to complete your online booking incase you run into any difficulties.
